Dr. Ralph Eshelman - Paleontologist, Historian

This illustrated talk covers the often misunderstood concepts of Relative Sea Level Rise, Climate Change over time, and the consequences. Dr. Ralph Eshelman has a unique understanding of Climate Change as a paleontologist and historian who has visited the Arctic and Antarctica over fifty times during his career.
Dr. Eshelman is the former director of the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, Maryland and is a specialist in vertebrate paleontology and paleo-environmental studies. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan with a major in geology and vertebrate paleontology and a minor in ecology. His earlier studies were at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Iowa. He was a Research Associate in the Department of Paleobiology at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution from 1975 until 2005. He is active in several professional organizations including the American Association for Quaternary Environment, vice-president for Science and Stewardship of the Maryland-Washington D.C. Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, Patuxent Riverkeeper, and Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. Honors include Outstanding Young Men in America (1981) and Emerging Young Leaders of America (1989). Eshelman is widely published in and lectures on geology and paleontology as well as maritime, polar and military history. His research interests have taken him to many parts of the world.
