Explore what it was like to grow up on a Tidewater Plantation during an era gone by at Historic Sotterley on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. This program will offer four unique learning opportunities at various locations on site:
10:00 am to 1:00 pm – Come and go, St. Mary’s County History Day Informational Workshop! Find out what it takes for 5th-12th graders to participate! Meet us in the Warehouse!
10:30 & 1:30 - An Olde Tyme Lesson on Horticulture! Join us at our one-room schoolhouse for a lesson on native plants and animals of the Tidewater. (Meet at the South Gatehouse)
10:30 & 1:30 - Painting with Nature! Take a walk down to the creek as you gather natural paintbrushes to create your own unique artwork. (Meet at the Warehouse)
12:00 & 3:00 - Meet the Three Sisters! Visit the Slave Cabin garden to learn more about these “sisters” and how they helped people survive. (Meet at the Slave Cabin)
12:00 & 3:00 - Bees Please! Walk through the main gardens of Sotterley and discover and examine important pollinators that fly or crawl and why these insects are important members of our eco-community.
3:00 - Kid friendly 1703 Manor House tour! Sign up at the Visitor Center, limit 20 persons.
Admission:
$5.00 per person. Children under age 6 FREE.
Purchase tickets at our Visitor Center.
Sotterley Members FREE.
No reservations necessary. Rain or shine event.
